2011 NAVA DINNER/AUCTION WITH PAST PRESIDENTS

Last night we had a great turn out for the Annual Nava Dinner and Auction. This year was kind of nice as the Nava Board invited the past presidents of Nava to come and join us in the festivities. It was nice to see and reminese with old friends and colleagues. I want some of you guys who have been on the fence about joining or not joining to really think about this year. I would love to talk with you if you have questions/concerns about joining, if nothing else Shara and I could "steer" you in the right direction to somebody who can answer your questions. This is a very exciting time for all of us in the vending industry, things are changing daily in our industry and this trade association is a great way to keep up on what's going on and who's doing what in our industry. From a personal stand point I myself have never been a big fan of this group just because of personal experience and the politics that have always seem to have "directed" the choices and decisions that this association has made in the past but I trully feel that things ARE changing for the better with these guys and as always the larger and sqweekier the wheel, the more "oil" or "attention" that wheel will recieve. This is OUR trade association you guys. One of the things to remember is you are not alone! Whether you are a single operator with one route or a large corporation with several, resources and ease of access to information is essential. You can also go to www.nwvending.org and check out the Nava site for specific info!

Oregon Commission for the Blind's vending program director put on leave pending investigation

SALEM -- The director at the Oregon Commission for the Blind who oversees vending and cafeteria programs in public buildings statewide has been put on paid leave pending an investigation.

Commission administrator Linda Mock confirmed Thursday that Walter Reyes, head of the Business Enterprises Program, was put on administrative leave Aug. 1.

Mock said she could not discuss the reasons other than to say there is an "investigation occurring."

Reached at his home Thursday, Reyes said his lawyer had advised him not to comment.

The Secretary of State's auditors confirmed they are looking into contracts and consultants connected to the vending program as a follow up to a May 2009 audit that questioned sloppy financial tracking and spending.

A spokesman for the Oregon Department of Justice said he could not "confirm or deny" whether the agency is conducting an investigation.

Reyes, who earns $68,052 a year, was promoted in November 2009 to be director of the vending program.

His responsibilities include management of a $750,000 two-year budget and 17 licensed blind vendors who operate snack machines, coffee carts and cafeterias in hundreds of public buildings throughout Oregon.

The program is largely funded through federal dollars. Sales topped $1.8 million last year, with 11 percent funneled back to the state commission to be used to maintain equipment and other operations costs.

Randy Hauth, one of the licensed vendors and chair of a consumer committee that works with the commission, said his group had filed multiple grievances with the state about Reyes and the program's management.

"The agency is responsible for safeguarding and protecting the program and the rights of the licensed blind vendors and we contend they don't do that and haven't done that," Hauth said Thursday.

Mock said she could not comment on those complaints, citing the ongoing investigation.

Earlier this year, an outside consultant hired to assess the program found the blind vendors didn't trust Reyes or other commission managers. The two sides agreed on an improvement plan, which Hauth and others said was ignored.

CHECKING IN

SKAMANIA LODGE
Hey guys just a quickie (sorry) to let you all know that we are thinking of you and also that we will be posting our great sales deal, incentive for July shortly. Shara and I have been very busy learning all we can about your businesses so that we may be the best Vending Distributor ever!! So much so that we have found our selves short of time and finding it difficult to post a lil sumpin', sumpin' all the time! But we promise you that it is a very high priority in our book to keep you all informed of the goings on in our world and beyond! One of the major things we are excited about is the upcoming 2011 Annual Nava Get together in August at Skamania Lodge in the Gorge at Stevenson, Washington. We are very excited because several of you have expressed interest and that is exciting because unfortunately in the past it has been pretty much a gathering for the ever present "good 'ol boys club" enough said? Anyway we believe that if we do kind of a "wedding crasher" approach this year, we can possibly light a fire under the pants of the organization to bring it up to a more relavent for all status!! Stay tuned, i will keep you posted on the dates and times of the events. Other than certain "aspects" of the event, it is always a good time and very informative and also let's not forget about the outstanding golf courses that we usually get to play on!! also it is a very "Family Friendly" event so bring the offsprings!!!!

We are very excited and honored to be able to provide you with least expensive vending products in the Northwest. And you guys have shown us your gratitude...again THANK YOU!! OK...so anyway here are a few other things going on that we are excited about. We are in the process of becoming Ever pure filter distributors and like our other products we WILL BE the place to purchase these guys at the most affordable price in the Northwest vending industry. We are also working on becoming a Purlogix water cooler distributor. Look for both of these products in our catalog or better yet give us a call and talk to me about your OCS needs. I wanted to let all of our OCS customers know that we are quickly gearing up to becoming your "one stop shop" when it comes to everything OCS! We are adding products weekly and assume this will be the case for a few months to come. Give me a call with any product suggestions or regrets that you may have on products purchased in the past.
